If it at all possible, I’d really like to make some progress on the bytecode refactor sclang: Refactor bytecodes by JordanHendersonMusic · Pull Request #6749 · supercollider/supercollider · GitHub. Although not the most pressing change as it doesn’t alter behaviour, I think greatly improves readability, safety, and opens the possibility to make changes to the bytecode with confidence. One issue is that it does require a moderate understanding of C++ to grasp the implementation — variadics in particular —, but the use of opcode classes should be completely transparent and obvious to a beginner (and if it isn’t, there is a problem).

I am accustomed to using s for the default local server, and I think it should not be changed. However, I believe the abbreviation S for it is worth discussing. If it is agreed upon, many parts of the help documents, including tutorials, would need to be updated. It surely seems like an unnecessary waste of energy and time. Nevertheless, using S could turn out to be better than s.

I hope this can be discussed in the upcoming developer meeting.
