doneAction use cases; terminology

Can doneAction be used in the context of a { //some synthing }.play?
Or is it really only designed to be used within a synth definition?

Also, what is the {}.play, {}.scope, {}.plot notation called?

{}.play is a convenience method which creates a temporary SynthDef and calls play on it. doneActions inside the function work.
