Realtime Ambisonics 5th Order - current standard approach?

Hi everybody!

For a current project i need a way to encode and decode signals for Ambisonics 5th Order for different speaker settings.

I found three ways which could work:

  • using the VST toolkit and external Ambisonic VSTs
  • using the ATK
  • and SC-HOA

Can someone advice me which approach is currently the standard approach?
I definitly need to be able to work in 5th Order settings.

I don’t think there’s anything that could be considered a standard approach. It also depends on what kind of control over the panning you want. ATK might be the most flexible if you want to do everything in SC.
Another option would be to route your sc-signals into Reaper (e.g. using Blackhole) and do encoding, processing and decoding there. This of course opens up for many other possibilities that comes with a DAW.
