Techniques for Live-Electronics

I am very interested in learning some processing techniques and algorithms for applying to live signals (opposed to signal read from buffers with PlayBuf & co.). I would be very much thankful for any hints, tipps and links to techniques and algorithms or even examples.

In general - for live mic input - I think anything you do to the output of a buffer is fine for real-time input. With one caveat - anything that returns the mic signal directly out to the speakers, you need to watch out for feedback.
I use buffer playback of recordings all the time to test out work, and often build in a switch to my code that uses a buffer OR the mic so that when I get somewhere live, I can test with a sound file in the space, even, then just turn the buffer off and the mic on.
