What should we input into the field "ancestor(s)" when submitting a code on sccode.org?

Dear users and developers,

What should we input into the field “ancestor(s)” when submitting a code on sccode.org?

What I can imagine is as follows:

  1. previously uploaded versions of the code which currently will be uploaded;

  2. codes uploaded by others or the author, which the current author will upload after revising;

  3. codes by others or the author, from which the current author has been inspired.

Am I correct?

I think the main reason to use it is when you start with code example from sccode, change it, and post a new version. You can use this field to link back to the original.
