SuperCollider Symposium 2025

Hi @John_C ,

We’re close to being able to sharing the videos! We’ve been waiting to get the files from the venue and now we’re having a bit of trouble getting the .zips to open properly… sigh soon though!

Hi @John_C ,

Perhaps you are running into the filesize limit for zip archives?

best, P

Yes, something like this. The files are in OneDrive and when I download them to my Mac they cannot be unzipped… we’re working on a solution.

The recordings (concerts, keynotes, & talks) are now available here. This folder is not guaranteed to exist forever, so please take a look soon!

The keynotes and talks were recorded via Zoom and the rooms we were presenting in had some strange AV behavior where microphones in the ceilings of other rooms were also piping into the Zoom room ?!? so apologies for the poor audio quality.

I was able to download it as a 22 gig zip file ok, but getting probably a similar error? “unable to expand…”

Could you maybe upload this somewhere that isn’t onedrive? or, has anyone else successfully downloaded this?

I’ve been able to watch a little bit of JMC’s keynote streaming but then it spun on me…

I’m familiar with this error. I think it is an issue when OneDrive files are downloaded to a Mac. If you download the files one at a time, it should be ok!

Would it be possible to upload these videos on e.g. vimeo/youtube/… and then link them on https://supercollider-2025.github.io/? I would be open to do a PR for the symposium website.
I don’t know what the privacy agreement here is/was, but it seems the content was already streamed once via Zoom, so …

I think there are some really good talks and concerts that are still worth to be consulted in a few years.
BTW - maybe it would also be a good to revive the official SC website @ https://supercollider.github.io/ via a small blog post about the symposium and the 2nd edition of the SC book?

I encountered the same error when using the default .zip extractor for MacOs. If you try and use software such as Unarchiver it will be extracted with no problem.

Best,
Stefano

I uploaded my performance here:

I’m not sure what the etiquette should be about camera, editing, and sound recording credits.

It would be great to have them all up in one place.

brilliant, this worked for me also. Thanks for the tech support

edit: ah I actually spoke too soon. all the video files in the folder extracted with The Unarchiver are actually text files with names like “James McCartney Keynote.mp4_Error.txt”… downloading the files individually is working though

Unfortunately, it sounds like the best approach is to download the ones you want one-by-one.

For crediting the documentation, you can say that they were “Recorded at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C.”

+1 (and more chars)!

Here are the slides to my talk. In the video, the slides seem to have been synched by hand later by someone (?), and they’re often on a different slide than the one I was showing.

That’s pretty weird. Not sure why they would have done that. Thanks for the slides.

I was able to download the video from my performance but the audio files in the wav folder concert2/audio‘“20250313…/wav/_0.2_Thormulator… is only 4k. Any chance you could reupload the audio?

You clicked on the wrong file. Click on 02_Thormulator… not ._02…etc

Sam

Of course - my stupid oversight. Thanks!

I’ve created a YouTube account for SuperCollider and would like to upload the video recordings of the Symposium talks there. This way, we can archive videos like those from the symposium and make them accessible to a wider audience. I’ll share the credentials of this account with other developers.

I would like to upload them in 2 weeks from now, so 2025-10-20T22:00:00Z

If you don’t want the video of your talk on YouTube, please DM me and I will take it down/not upload it

If I receive positive feedback on uploading the talks, I would also consider uploading the concerts on an opt-in basis.
Additionally, I’ll upload videos of some performances from the SuperCollider 3.14 release party (for those who opted in for an upload).

Since the audio-quality on some videos is subpar and we probably have some people with skills regarding audio-editing in this forum, we asked ourselves in the dev-meeting if there would be some people in the community who would like to fix some audio issues on these videos.
The videos should still be available from the main video so you can have a look/listen.
Pplease write me a DM and we will try figure out a way how to organize this.

The keynotes and paper sessions are now available via the new SuperCollider YouTube channel - enjoy
